CTU students prepare for the space – they have joined SSETI

A group of students from the Czech Technical University in Prague succeeded in applying for participation in SSETI (The Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative). The program was established by a European Space Agency in 2000. The application was submitted with the support of CTU Vice-Rector Jaroslav Kuba. The group has participated in the project called SWARM.

The aim of the project is to design and build a nano-satellite and a few femto-satellites. These satellites will be released in low earth orbit and will rotate around earth in a formation resembling a swarm. This is the origin of the project name. Satellites will communicate together, the physical experiments will be performed on-board, and the results will be sent to earth.

On the project we cooperate with student teams from several European universities and one Canadian university. Our team has been assigned to design and realize the on-board data handling device for all satellites. Currently we are working to establish the team at our university. After this first phase we plan to invite students from related CTU study areas to join the team.
