INTRODUCTORY PROVISIONS
Article 1
Basic provisions
1. Czech Technical University in Prague (hereinafter referred to as the "CTU") is a public university-type.
CTU headquarters is in Prague.
CTU address is:

2. CTU is the continuator to the Professional Engineering School, founded in 1707 on the basis of the imperial rescript and converted to the Polytechnic Institute since 1803 to 1806. CTU is the successor of the Czech Polytechnic Institute of the Czech Kingdom resulting from the division of the Royal Czech Polytechnic Provincial Institute in Prague in 1869. The name Czech Technical University was used since 1879. The name Czech Technical University in Prague is used since 1920.
3. The immediate legal predecessor is the Czech Technical University in Prague (the college under the Act No. 172/1990 Coll.).
4. Abbreviated name of the school is CTU in Prague, shortcut is CTU. Name translations into other languages are listed in Order of organization of the CTU (Appendix 1).
Article 2
Academia, academic rights and freedoms
1. CTU academia, as defined in § 3 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., about Universities and changes and amendments to other Acts (Act about universities), (hereinafter the "Act") exercise autonomy of the CTU directly or through CTU autonomous bodies.
2. Basic academic freedoms and academic rights are governed by § 4 of the Act.
3. The CTU is not permitted to establish and organize the activities of political parties and political movements. There can rise and operate the union, hobby and the professional civic associations of the employees and students at CTU.
Article 3
CTU status
1. CTU is a legal person. In legal matters they are on their own behalf. It uses a round stamp with a small national emblem of the Czech Republic and the words "Czech Technical University in Prague."
2. CTU performs educational, scientific, research, development, artistic and other creative activities.
3. Following the performance of its primary task under paragraph 2, CTU also performs additional activities (§ 20 paragraph 2 of the Act).
4. CTU is divided into faculties, academic institutions and other components.
5. The internal conditions are governed by CTU, CTU Statute (hereinafter "Statute") and other internal regulations of CTU under § 17 para 1. a) to h) of the Act and other internal regulations of CTU designated pursuant to § 17 para 1. i) of this statute (Article 41 paragraph 2).
