At a ceremony at the Bethlehem Chapel on January 19th, 2010, a doctorate honoris causa was awarded to Prof. Karen Scrivener, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. Prof. Scrivener is the director and the driving force behind Nanocem, a large consortium that brings together researchers and companies interested in fundamental research on the nanoscience of cement and concrete.

At a ceremony at the Bethlehem Chapel on January 19th, 2010 a doctorate honoris causa was awarded to Prof. Hans Kaiser. In addition to his distinguished work as an applied mathematician at the Vienna University of Technology, Prof Kaiser has worked extensively in establishing international study opportunities, lifelong learning, teacher education, and European and international dimension to university education in engineering.

Medical studies are soon to start with the MARS scanner, a revolutionary CT scanner developed by the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. The scanner, which incorporates technology developed at the world's leading particle physics research centre, CERN, was recently shipped to research partners in North America. Today a student from Canterbury arrives in North America to use the scanner to study heart disease. This development puts the technology, known as Medipix, firmly on the path to saving lives.

After more than 300 years of existence, CTU in Prague’s oldest faculty, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, has for the first time elected a female dean. Prof. Ing. Alena Kohoutková, CSc takes up the post in February 2010. Between studying at the faculty and joining its staff, Prof Kohoutková worked for nine years at the Project Institute for Development of the Capital City of Prague. Read more »

National Technical Library opened

The new National Technical Library opened, as planned, on 09. 09. 2009. This is considered to be just about the finest piece of architecture to be erected in Prague in modern times. Read more »
New university building progresses under student surveillance

A major new university building is being constructed beside the present-daybuilding of the Faculty of Architecture. The Faculty of Architecture will move into the new building in the summer semester of 2010/2011.

The Faculty of Information Technologies, the eighth faculty of CTU in Prague, opened its doors to its first batch of students in September 2009. A total of 469 students registered for the first year of studies. Read more »
CTU in Prague improves its international ranking

According to the latest ranking in the Times Higher Education Supplement, the Czech Technical University in Prague appears in 394th place. This is the first time that the university has ranked in the Top 400 universities in the world, out of more than eight thousand universities worldwide. The best ranked Czech university, Charles University, ranked 229th, and no other Czech university was placed among the Top 400 universities.

The THES ranking of technical universities was published at the same time. Here, the Czech Technical University in Prague moved up to 171st place, which is an improvement of more than 50 places on the previous year’s ranking. Read full article.
