Kerberos – the IT system for password evidence
Introduction:
PRESENT STATE (to Wednesday, May 29, 2013):
The passwords are now stored in several systems on faculties and/or on Computer and Information Centre (VIC). Different applications use different password sources.
FINAL STATE (at the latest from January 1, 2014):
The base of new conception is system Kerberos which is used as source of passwords for all CTU users. Almost all major university and faculty IT systems will use this password for login. User will need only one password.
TRANSITION PERIOD (from Thursday, May 16, 2013 to Wednesday, May 29, 2013):
All users HAVE TO set their new CTU password “HESLO ČVUT”.
You can set your new password in SSU (usermap) system. Log in on webpage usermap.cvut.cz For log in use your current password using for login to KOS, FIS or other university systems. Click up right above on your name. Your personal information will appear on the next page. Click on the tab "Settings" and in paragraph named “Access rights” to "User password settings (CTU password)". Enter the current password and then two times new password for the Kerberos and press "Save" button. If you are not successful in setting your password, contact administrators.
This password will be effective for university systems and for systems of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Transportation Sciences immediately. There will be gradual implementation of this password for systems in other faculties. Pay attention to web sites of your faculty.
ATENTION! The Mobilitypassword used for login to Eduroam network is a password with low security level and it has to be different from the password of CTU “HESLO CVUT”.

Information about system Kerberos
Kerberos is university password storage system for all users. The major university systems use Kerberos to verify user password during login.

There are main rules of CTU for this system:
Příkaz rektora 8/99 Pravidla používání sítě (The Rector’s command 8/99 Rules for using a network. Each user is required to use only his username that has been given to him. User is required keep his password confidential to prevent its misuse. User is fully responsible for the damage caused by misuse of his password due to careless handling of the password.

The change of CTU password can be done by following methods:
- User himself – user can set his password on usermap.cvut.cz.

Administrator of CTU passwords:
- Is able to set new user password according his competence.

Is required to verify identity of person asking for password change. Person identity can be verified by CTU ID Card, Czech Republic or European Union ID Card or by the passport. Administrator is required to verify:
- validity of ID Card,
- conformity of photography and the appearance of person
- the conformity of name and surname on the ID card and in SSU
- the conformity of CTU personal number or personal identification number assigned by Czech Republic
- Is required to convey the password only to applicant whose identity is correspondent to identity of user whose password is set in.
